This seminar aims to connect people who are developing activities around franchising, entrepreneurship and BOP in developing countries. It will give you the opportunity to learn more about this innovative concept from the practitioners.

Franchising for development is the replication of successful business concepts with high development impact in developing countries. It stimulates entrepreneurship through the efficient production and distribution of products and services for the Base of the Pyramid (BOP).

A Franchise package can be developed by an entrepreneur who wants to grow, a NGO or microfinance institution looking for a higher developmental impact, or a company that wants to distribute its innovative BoP product in developing countries. It can include any number of the following: an operations manual, a training, access to the supply chain, hardware, sales strategies, state-of-the-art ICT communications, product sourcing, credit, branding or marketing.
Speakers: Jason Fairbourne, director of the Microfranchise Development Initiative and editor of MicroFranchising: Creating Wealth at the Bottom of the Pyramid will give an introductory presentation. Varun Sahni, director of Acumen Fund India will, among others, present cases of franchising including Drishtee and Scojo.
