From June 22nd till 26th a delegation of over 150 Nigerian politicians and entrepreneurs visited the Netherlands.

Together with the Nigerian Embassy and the Nigeria-Netherlands Chamber of Commerce, NABC organized this Business Forum. Our main goal was to introduce the Nigerian economic possibilities to Dutch companies interested in Nigeria. During the 23rd and 24th of June, some 50 Dutch companies and the Nigerian guests gathered in the Kurhaus where two fruitful days took place.

All the Nigerian Governors that had come to the Netherlands spoke about their states and specific economic opportunities present. Some of the Dutch companies gave presentations as well and were directly contacted by interested Nigerians afterwards. Much networking was also going on in the rooms especially reserved for this purpose. The first day ended with a dinner at the residence of the Nigerian Ambassador, Mrs. Akanbi.

The Dutch minister of Economic Affairs Maria van der Hoeven spoke on the 24th. She highlighted different forms of cooperation between the two countries and mentioned Vlisco as an interesting example. This company was visited by a group of the Nigerian delegation the next day. More visits were made to Van Vliet Trucks, Flora Holland, Rüttchen Trucks and MDK Plants and Decorations. These were greatly enjoyed by our guests who did some serious shopping.

Let’s hope that a next visit from Nigeria will be as festive as this one!

’I recently discovered that NABC has not only got their regular services, they also offer real individual attention on top of the professionalism and the friendliness of their staff. As my business is entirely focused on Africa it is, of course, of utmost importance to network; not only in Africa but also with companies and institutions in the Netherlands. NABC proved their professionalism in helping me to establish these vital contacts.

Take for instance the 2009 Nigerian/Dutch Business and Investment forum held from 23-25 June in The Hague. A huge Nigerian mission (150 delegates, some 100 from public institutions and some 50 private companies) came to the Netherlands to attend this conference and to establish contacts. Together with the Nigerian Embassy NABC organized a smooth and very successful conference of 3 days.

Other very valuable services of NABC are to help Dutch companies to find their way in the myriad of African ministries, investment committees, chambers of commerce and so on, but also to connect Dutch companies with other Dutch companies where synergies are possible.
I already look forward to co-operate with NABC and the Kenyan Embassy to organize a Kenyan 2010 investment event for private and public intuitions Netherlands next year!
