Nigeria is Africa's most populous country, with 170M. Economic development is largely private sector driven and Nigeria's private sector is very dynamic compared to most other African countries. NABC recognized opportunities in the construction sector and with financial support of the Dutch government organized a trade mission for this sector to Lagos and Abuja. Most of the 12 participants were small and medium sized Dutch companies involved with supplying technological solutions to the construction sector. Both the housing sector as well as road construction are booming in Nigeria. With respect to the Nigerian government, it became clear that many urban areas are being developed around many Nigerian cities - urban planning thus being another opportunity. The Dutch embassy organised a briefing in Lagos and a reception in Abuja. NABC organised matchmaking sessions, company visits and meetings with Chamber of Commerce members. The most impressive visit was to the Dangote headquarters, where the NABC delegation was received by a senior board member. As a follow up, some participants went back to Nigeria in the same year to participate in a building sector trade fair.
