NABC will organise a Hortifresh fruit trade mission to Côte d'Ivoire from 26st of November to the 1st of December 2019. Since January 2019, HortiFresh has established a wide network of relevant stakeholders and Ivorian companies in the fruit sector, ranging from agri-government officials, producers/exporters, input dealers, processors, fruit cooperatives, marketers, etc. The HortiFresh trade mission will enable the Dutch delegation members to connect to these players, promote (fruit) trade between Côte d’Ivoire and The Netherlands and to establish partnerships. The mission will coincide with the SARA (Salon de l'Agriculture et des Resources Animales), to facilitate trade promotion and business linkages between the Netherlands and Côte d’Ivoire. The SARA is the one of the most important trade fairs in West-Africa in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing, forestry, and agrifood. In addition to SARA participation, the mission will also include a variety of field visits, B2B matchmaking, a fruits seminar and a networking cocktail. MISSION PRACTICALITIES

The mission participation fee amounts to 400 euro (excl. VAT), including the mission program activities, SARA participation, and collective group transport (incl. airport pick-up and drop off). It does not include international flight, hotel, food/drinks. The deadline for registration is the 15th of November.

HORTIFRESH

Hortifresh is a 3-year programme focussing on commercial fruit and vegetable Sector development in West Africa. It is funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Accra, implemented in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. In Côte d'Ivoire, HortiFresh aims for a competitive and innovative high-value- and the inclusive and sustainable growth of the fruit sector. Since January 2019, HortiFresh has established a wide network of relevant stakeholders and Ivorian companies in the fruit sector, ranging from agri-government officials, producers/exporters, input dealers, processors, fruit cooperatives, marketers, etc. The HortiFresh trade mission will enable the Dutch delegation members to connect to these players, promote (fruit) trade between Côte d'Ivoire and the Netherlands and to establish partnerships.

In Côte d'Ivoire, Hortifresh is active within the following fruit chains (fresh/cut, juice, frozen and dried):

  • Proven business: mango, banana, pineapple and coconut (conventional, organic and fair trade)
  • Experimental: papaya, melons, passion fruit, lychee, dragon fruit


SARA & FRUITS TRADE MISSION

To facilitate trade promotion and business linkages between the NLs and Côte d'Ivoire, the HortiFresh fruits mission to Côte d'Ivoire will coincide with the SARA (Salon de l'Agriculture et des Resources Animales), which will take place in Abidjan. This is the most important trade fair in West-Africa in the field of agricultureanimal husbandryfishingforestry, and agrifood.

  • HortiFresh will be represented by a 30m2 HortiFresh stand where 10 Ivorian fruit companies will exhibit and where the Dutch delegation will have room to network and liaise with Ivorian companies.
  • In addition to the SARA participation, the mission will include a variety of field visits (to be tailored based on the participant’s interests), B2B matchmaking, a fruits seminar, and a networking cocktail
     

CDI FRUIT SECTOR:

  • The Ivorian fruit sector has a long history of exporting to Europe, with serious and experienced players, aware of quality requirements and certifications. Weekly loads are shipped by boat to Antwerp
  • Worldwide, Côte d'Ivoire is the second biggest exporter of pineapple with a sizeable number of independent farmers (100)
  • Côte d'Ivoire is the largest exporter of mango in Africa (50% organic), production of 400.000 tons, produced mainly by medium sized farms
  • African location of the world’s largest banana growing location (320.000 ton exported to Europe)

The main opportunities for Dutch business in the Ivorian fruit sector are:

  • Specialized fertilizers, soil enhancers, soil monitoring, (biological) crop protection
  • Irrigation technology - precision agriculture (remote sensing/weather forecasting)

Mission target group: Dutch companies active in above sectors, with respect to the fruit sector and with an interest in the West African market and supply.
